The Great Controversy

"The Great Controversy" is a book that evokes a big interest but also considerable controversy since its first issue in 1888. This book shows the origin of the eternal conflict between good and evil, and attractively explains the 2000 year history on the background of the Bible - from the fall of Jerusalem through the first Christians, the decline of Church reformers until the present time and our future up to the nearing second coming of Jesus Christ. The author brings out the uncompromising examples from the history of Christianity of how the conscience of people has been tempered by taking advantage of their ignorance and point out that these trends will increasingly become strong until they result in the absolute restraint of the human freedom. The world is in the middle of a big struggle and our freedom is increasingly restrained under the guise of peace and tranquility. Do you want to recognize the forces behind this effort? Do you want to understand whats going on with our world, whether behind the scene of politics, the deteriorating condition of nature or the utter moral bankruptcy? And where is our world heading? Do you want to understand why there is such chaos in religious teachings and directions? Do you want to know on which side you stand? Then this book is just for you.

The author wrote about the book The Great Controversy:

“The Great Controversy should be very widely circulated. It contains the story of the past, the present, and the future. In its outline of the closing scenes of this earths history, it bears a powerful testimony in behalf of the truth. I am more anxious to see a wide circulation for this book than for any others I have written, for in The Great Controversy, the last message of warning to the world is given more distinctly than in any of my other books.”
Letter 281, 1905

“The book The Great Controversy, I appreciate above silver or gold, and I greatly desire that it shall come before the people. The results of the circulation of this book are not to be judged by what now appears. By reading it, some souls will be aroused, and will have courage to unite themselves at once with those who keep the commandments of God. But a much larger number who read it will not take their position until they see the very events taking place that are foretold in it. The fulfillment of some of the predictions will inspire faith that others also will come to pass, and when the earth is lightened with the glory of the Lord, in the closing work, many souls will take their position on the commandments of God as the result of this agency.”
CM 128, 129.

“Patriarchs and Prophets, Daniel and the Revelation, and Great Controversy are needed now as never before. They should be widely circulated because the truths they emphasize will open many blind eyes.”
SM 123; RH 2-16-1905.

“The book The Great Controversy, I appreciate above silver or gold, and I greatly desire that it shall come before the people. While writing the manuscript of The Great Controversy, I was often conscious of the presence of the angels of God. And many times the scenes about which I was writing were presented to me anew in visions of the night, so that they were fresh and vivid in my mind.”
Letter 56, 1911

The Message of the Bible:

Revelation 14:6-7 - Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth-to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people- saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

Revelation 14:8 -
And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”

Revelation 14:9-12 - Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. - The Great Controversy - the Past, Present and the Future of the World
